Summer has 20 hours of sunlight per day, but winter can cast parts of the country in permanent darkness for months. Oslo’s capital city is a beautiful place to live that offers a unique combination of sea, mountains and urban buzz.

Stavanger’s has a cracking cathedral and Bergen is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Norwegians enjoy the best life expectancies in the world. Norway’s traditional food has krumkake (paper-thin waffles) and smalahove (sheep’s head), that is worth a mention.

If you want to move to Norway, you have some belongings that you want to bring with you. You can either choose air freight and sea freight. Opt for air freight for speed of service at a higher cost. Sea freight is slower with less payment.

Go for the available container sizes of 20 feet or 40 feet. You can use a whole container or just a portion of it, known as “Less Than Container Load” (LCL). Oslo is Norway’s largest shipping port and has a beautiful fjord leading up to it. The southern port has the gateway to Norway that deals with the majority of container ships sailing to the country.

The capacity is double in size and deals with a large variety of cargo. Other large ports include Bergen (south-west), Drammen (south), and Narvik (north-west). If you ship a car to Norway then it would go to Drammen, or you can expect your cargo to go to Oslo.

When your container reaches the Norwegian port, you need to get through customs and then you’re sorted.

Don’t bring anything restricted or prohibited, as this incur hefty fines and prevent your shipment from getting through.

You have to create an inventory of everything inside your container, list every object and state whether it’s new or used.

The more clearer your list, the quicker and easier the customs would be. Can avoid paying any duties or taxes on your household goods, when you have lived abroad continuously for at least a year, or everything is second hand or you move to live in Norway permanently as well use the belongings. Containers are subjected to physical inspection, so it’s best to be honest with your inventory.
